What Should a Small Business Website Include?
A checklist of the pages and features that actually matter for a small business website in India — and the things you can skip.

A small business website does not need to be large. It needs to answer a visitor’s questions quickly and make it easy for them to contact you. Here is what to include.
1. A clear homepage
Within a few seconds, a visitor should understand what you do, where you do it and how to contact you. A clear headline, a short description, a few key services or products and a prominent contact button are enough. Avoid long welcome messages and slow animations.
2. About your business
Customers want to know who they are dealing with. Share how long you have been in business, who runs it, what you specialise in and why customers choose you. Real photos of your team, shop or premises help more than stock images.
3. Products or services
Give each main service or product category its own section or page. Explain it in plain language, mention who it is for and include photos where possible. End each section with a way to enquire.
4. Proof that you are genuine
- Photos of your work, premises or products
- Genuine testimonials from customers
- Certifications, registrations or memberships
- Well-known clients, if they are happy to be named
Never invent reviews or numbers. Visitors can usually tell, and it damages trust.
5. Easy ways to get in touch
Make contacting you effortless:
- A click-to-call phone number
- A WhatsApp button — for many Indian customers, this is the preferred way to enquire
- A short enquiry form
- Your address with a map, if customers visit you
- Business hours
6. A mobile-friendly design
Most of your visitors will be on a phone. Text must be readable without zooming, buttons large enough to tap and pages quick to load on mobile data.
7. Basic search engine setup
Each page should have a clear title and description, sensible headings and fast loading times. This does not guarantee rankings, but it gives search engines what they need to understand your website.
8. A way to keep it updated
An outdated website — old prices, last year’s offers, a phone number that no longer works — is worse than you might think. Choose a website with a content management system so you can make changes yourself.
What you can skip
You probably do not need a blog on day one, complicated animations, a large number of near-empty pages or features you will not maintain. Start with the essentials, done well, and grow from there.
